• KUNZ RLB - Recovery Lifting Bags

KUNZ RLB - Recovery Lifting Bags

Key Tasks

  • Pneumatic lifting of disabled aircraft of any size in runway excursion and off-runway scenarios
  • Supporting aircraft in NLG and MLG collapsed scenarios up to 7 m lifting height
  • Very low initial height allows placement under the aircraft fuselage in any scenario
  • Compatible with wooden cribbing and Base Bags to reach any required lifting height

Overview

The KUNZ RLB Recovery Lifting Bag System is the most widely used tool for aircraft lifting in disabled aircraft recovery operations worldwide. The pneumatic lifting bags are capable of raising aircraft of any size to heights of up to 7 metres.

Each bag consists of multiple compartments vulcanised one upon the other, manufactured from drop-thread fabric and coated with a proven, durable rubber compound that guarantees vertical and horizontal stability throughout the operation. The individual compartments of low height prevent harsh aircraft movement should one compartment rupture during the lift.

The bags are very low in height initially, allowing them to be placed beneath the aircraft fuselage in any scenario. They can be towed to the recovery site by operators and are compatible with wooden cribbing or KUNZ Base Bags to achieve any required lifting height. Skin pressure during the lift is measurable with the KUNZ SPC Skin Pressure Control station.

Different sets, capacities and sizes are available for all civil and military aircraft types.

Main Benefits

  • Lifting capacity for all aircraft sizes – from regional jets to the Airbus A380
  • Very low profile for placement under the aircraft in any scenario
  • Multi-compartment design prevents harsh aircraft movement if one compartment ruptures
  • Compatible with wooden cribbing and KUNZ Base Bags for any required lifting height
  • Skin pressure monitorable with KUNZ SPC Skin Pressure Control
  • Proven for ARC movement up to 15° – verified in training and real operations
  • Meets international standards and recommendations from Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and ICAO
  • Available in various sets, capacities and sizes for all civil and military aircraft

The Industry Standard in Pneumatic Aircraft Lifting

The KUNZ RLB Recovery Lifting Bag System has been the primary tool in aircraft recovery operations for decades – combining proven engineering with the flexibility to handle any scenario. From narrow-body runway excursions to wide-body runway shoot-overs, KUNZ lifting bags provide the stable, controlled lift that recovery teams worldwide depend on.

The Pneumatic Controller (PC) provides individual control over every compartment during inflation, and quick deflation is possible using the KUNZ Vacuum Ejector. The PC storage container forms a stable base for positioning the control panel at an ergonomic working height during the recovery operation.

Complete System Integration

The KUNZ RLB forms the centrepiece of a fully integrated lifting system. Combined with KUNZ Tethering Equipment to stabilise the aircraft against wind loads and the KUNZ SPC Skin Pressure Control for real-time pressure monitoring, the RLB system provides everything needed for a safe, controlled and fully documented recovery lift.

All KUNZ RLB equipment is engineered and manufactured to meet the requirements of Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and many other OEMs as well as ICAO standards.

KUNZ PC - Pneumatic Controller:

KUNZ Pneumatic Controllers provide individual inflation control over every bag compartment. The KUNZ Vacuum Ejector enables rapid deflation after the recovery operation. The PC housing doubles as a stable base for the control panel during lifting.

KUNZ RLB Base Bags:

KUNZ Base Bags are available to achieve greater lifting heights and provide enhanced control and stability during the lift – an alternative to wooden cribbing for more demanding scenarios.
