Overview

The KUNZ Ground Reinforcement Element K110 is a heavy-duty ground reinforcement solution designed to reduce point loads on soft ground during aircraft shoot-over recovery scenarios.

Made from heavy-duty polyethylene, each element measures 2,000 × 1,220 × 15 mm, weighs 36 kg and can be connected to adjacent elements via 8 connection points using a plug system. The elements can be connected indefinitely, allowing the reinforced area to be extended as required. Individual elements or full sets can be handled by one or two operators and are stackable for compact storage and transport.

The K110 system supports the 'walking runway' concept: elements already used at the front of the aircraft can be progressively redeployed to the back, creating a continuous reinforced path to reach hard ground with a minimum number of elements.

Solid Ground for Every Recovery – Even in the Most Challenging Terrain

Soft ground is one of the most challenging conditions in aircraft recovery. When an aircraft departs the prepared runway surface onto grass, mud or soft soil, recovery equipment cannot be placed without first providing an adequate bearing surface.

The KUNZ K110 elements distribute the concentrated loads from lifting bags, dollies and trailers across a significantly larger area, reducing ground pressure to levels that allow safe deployment of recovery equipment even on the most challenging terrain. With a load capacity of 250 tonnes per mat and a temperature range of -80 °C to +100 °C, the K110 performs in every environment and every climate.

The Walking Runway – Maximum Coverage with Minimum Equipment

One of the most innovative features of the KUNZ K110 system is the 'walking runway' concept. Rather than requiring a fixed number of elements to cover the entire distance from the aircraft to hard ground, already-used elements at the front of the aircraft are progressively redeployed to the rear as the aircraft moves forward.

This continuous redeployment means that a modest inventory of K110 elements can create an effectively unlimited reinforced path to hard ground – reducing both the total equipment required and the time needed to prepare the site for recovery.
